T9 Motorsport - The Car
Darrian T9 Darrian T9 Darrian T9

Our rally car is a Darrian T9 and was the last model of this kind to be made before the T90 came along.

The car is taxed, tested and approved by the MSA for Stage Rallies under Category 3 rules, which is currently valid until 1st Jan 2012.

Q942 RNH is fitted with a Honda CBR 1100 XXV Super Blackbird engine taken from its motorcycle namesake. It produces around 162bhp as standard on carbs and coupled with its own sequential gearbox it makes for a fantastic performance unit. We keep the engine specification standard for reliability although we have baffled the sump and beefed up the clutch up as it takes more effort to power the car than a motorcycle.

Instead of a chain drive to the rear wheels the engine is coupled up to a Quaife PowerTec axle unit which has a built in limited slip differential and integral reverse. Final drive ratios can be easily changed to suit different venues which is always handy.

It is a 2 seater car with its engine mid mounted behind the seats. The suspension is supported by 21/4" coil over dampers and all brake and fuel lines are braided with stainless steel quality sheaths for added protection. Wheels are 13" diameter by 6" wide to keep within our Class 1 requirements. Cabin space is...well....cosy?! No air con or MP3 player in this one!

The car is currently geared to 121mph which we reach quite often but don't tell Jon..!

The Darrian marque is owned by Mr Tim Duffee, who is based in mid Wales. If you would like to find out more about type of car then please click here .

The car, acquired by Mydrian in 2001, came fitted with the motorcycle engine but was originally a non-runner. After some time spent studying the electronic ignition module wiring diagrams, the engine finally breathed into life. However, it wasn't until 2004 that the car made it's debut and subsequently attended a handful of rallies over the last few years. At the beginning of 2008 it underwent a rebuild with many new modifications to improve reliability and performance.

The car's development program is currently on schedule. We believe this package can not only be a class winner, but also capable of top ten finishes.
